What Lies Ahead
Project Overview
As part of my Illustration class, I was asked to redesign a spread from a children’s book. I chose Dark on Light, written by Dianne White and illustrated by Felicita Sala. I brainstormed different solutions through sketches, focusing on making the readers feel like they are in the scene.
I refined the sketches until I had a final scan, which I placed into Procreate. I then colored it digitally, overlaying a watercolor piece for texture and color variety. I had originally planned to use a larger color palette; however, when experimenting with color, I found that a monochromatic palette created a more captivating atmosphere.
The final solution invites the reader into the scene, making it more personal than the original. The texture and lighting create depth, allowing the viewer to travel into the world of the book.
